In the Mundaka Upanishad, knowledge there, is mentioned as Vidya and has been divided into Para-vidya and Apara-vidya. In Apar vidya are included all the Vedas and Ved-angas like astronomy, grammer and so on. The Upanishad defines Para-vidya as that which purely leads to the realization of the Supreme Truth. Subsequently it calls those teachers, who are experts in Apara-vidya as having no touch with Para-vidya as Andhai naiva niyamaana yath andha aha, “the blind leading the blind”.
