The crescent moon is a symbol of Shakti. You see it in Durga and Kali. The Navadurgas all have a crescent. Crescent is also the last digit of the moon either when it is waning or waxing. The crescent – therefore – is considered to be the sixteenth letter of the sixteen lettered Sri Vidya.
