‘Sustainable lifestyle’ is best defined as making conscious lifestyle choices that reduce environmental degradation.
These range from reducing individual and household consumption, reducing waste, and embracing environmentally-responsible production practices, to using renewable energy sources, cycling/walking instead of automobiles emitting toxic gases that add to pollution, amongst many others.
Key Pillars of Sustainability
Environmental Integrity
Economic Integrity
Energy Efficiency
Efficient Waste Management
Community Empowerment
The MyBhoomi initiative of The Satsang Foundation is aimed at combating numerous environmental challenges.
The first set of projects are focussed on efforts to prevent plastic waste from polluting landscapes and waterscapes. Volunteers across age-groups have spared no efforts in making plastic redundant from public and environmentally sensitive spaces.
The team’s efforts in promoting ‘Bhoomi bags’ instead of single-use plastic bags in two forms, 100% biodegradable and upcycled reusable bags, are conspicuous in the increasing usage of the same.
MyBhoomi’s partnership with SagarMitra Abhiyaan conceptualized by Dr. Vinod Bodhankhar of The Academic Advisors (TAA) is being introduced in schools pan-India, to inculcate in both, students and teachers the necessity of environment protection. They all are encouraged to become active ‘Environment Protection Ambassadors’ and assist in the segregation of dry plastic waste from their own homes for recycling purposes.
Other projects are being planned to encourage communities across India and elsewhere to become more sustainable through lifestyle choices.
Keep watching this space for updates on the projects under the MyBhoomi initiative.
