From ancient times, meditation has been defined as one-pointedness, where the mind is not allowed to be scattered or dissipated in different directions. In fact, if you learn the art of being one pointed in meditation or in day to day life, you are automatically in a meditative state all the time. If you are one pointed in your day to day life, you are one pointed in meditation too. It is not possible to be one pointed only while meditating.
