International Yoga Research Foundation

Where ancient wisdom meets modern science

I want this centre to be a place where we can collect enough data to aid the study and research of yoga and meditation, as many consider this a non-scientific approach.

– Sri M

The International Yoga Research Foundation (IYRF) is the latest initiative of The Satsang Foundation (TSF) encompassing Sri M’s vision of a research institute that goes beyond traditional practices, blending ancient wisdom with modern scientific approaches through the exploration of the transformative impact of yoga and meditation on the human mind and body.

Inaugurated on 1 May 2023, the IYRF aims to provide evidence-based research to establish measurable parameters of the benefits of yoga, meditation, and related spiritual practices that influence the neurophysiology of the human mind, fostering emotional balance, clarity, and overall well-being.

Ideal setting for inner exploration

Nestled in the serene village of Cheruvikkal near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, the IYRF is located amidst lush greenery and a tranquil setting. Seekers can immerse themselves in yoga, meditation, and japa, creating the perfect synergy between the outer environment and the inner journey of self-exploration.

Gathering great minds

Gathering the best minds in the scientific and yoga communities, the “Colloquium on Yoga in Life Sciences and Beyond”was held on 17-18 February 2024 in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram. Providing a platform for experts to share research findings and case studies, the colloquium featured sessions exploring the connection between Yoga and various disciplines such Cancer Management, Endocrinology, Neurology, Child Psychiatry, and Geriatrics.

On-going and future endeavors

Programs destined to attune young minds to a balanced life through a harmonious blend of Emotional Quotient (EQ), Behavioral Quotient (BQ), and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) have been launched at a few schools for students of Grades 7-10. Sessions on yoga and meditation accompany lessons on brain physiology and the development of essential cortical skills, helping the youth to tackle the adverse effects of excessive engagement with social media.

Facilities and location

The IYRF centre is situated 10 kms from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and is also accessible by road from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station (9.5 km) and Kochuveli Railway Station (6 km). The centre comprises a meditation hall, a yoga hall, a discussion room for collaborative interactions, and an office.
