The Satsang Foundation volunteers from Bengaluru succeeded in conducting a MyTree drive at The Spastics Society, Indira Nagar on 27th September 2016. The Spastics Society of Karnataka is an NGO dedicated to the welfare of persons with neuro-muscular and developmental disabilities. The society provides a comprehensive package of diagnostic and intervention services to persons with cerebral palsy, autism, mental retardation, multiple disabilities and learning disabilities.

Mrs. Rukmini Krishnaswamy, Director at The Spastics Society was instrumental in driving this initiative and ensuring the participation of the students. The senior students of the school were very enthusiastic about planting saplings in their campus, which beautifully sprawls across 6 acres in central Bengaluru. The gardener of the campus had requested that only fruit bearing saplings be planted and he personally handpicked those of Coconut, Betel-nut, Guava, Mango, Sapota, Drumstick and Lemon.

The volunteers led the students to plant 50 saplings in their campus. The excited children first put some organic manure in the pit and then planted the saplings and watered them with the help of the volunteers. Each child also took the pledge to maintain the saplings in future – with that the bond between each sapling and the child was sealed!

Bengaluru volunteers thanked the administration and leadership of The Spastics Society for the opportunity provided and are now gearing up for their next MyTree project drive.
