Children dressed in their colourful festival best along with teachers decorated the school with flowers. It was indeed heartening to note parents too voluntarily participating in the preparations. This was a first!
The flag hoisting was done by the fresh entrants younger children after which the cultural programs started.
Children spoke about the significance of the day and sang songs composed to new tunes from their text books. The facilitators played their part by talking to the children about the important and magnitude of the freedom fight and the impact of it in our lives today.
The highlight was that the children put together the entire cultural program with the younger ones being guided and motivated by the seniors. A dance of the traditional ‘kolatam’ was part of this with all practice sessions being directed by the senior children with a mix of laughter of sincere effort.
The day ended concluded with their mid-day meal.
